Elizabeth Hess

When I graduated from Urbana High School many years ago, I never - ever - thought I would move back to Champaign-Urbana one day.

After four years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and 15 years living in downtown Chicago, I realized there was no better place to raise a family than right here in C-U!

After several internships in media, including one summer at WCIA-3, I worked for such organizations as Steppenwolf Theatre Company and the Art Institute of Chicago. After a dream one night, I realized that my life's goal was to work in radio. My first job was hosting a relationship-advice-call-in show on WCKG in Chicago. When that ended, I spent 6 years as a news/traffic reporter at Shadow/Metro Operations, and then hosted a daily national sports talk show on Sporting News radio. I was then hired as a reporter/anchor at WGN radio.

When I realized I wanted to move back to Champaign to be near family, I contacted WDWS to see if there were any openings in the news department. Our news director, Carol Vorel, held a position, and waited for me to move here. (Thank you for that!!!)

When not at the radio center, I can be found baking something fattening, watching too much television, or eating out with friends.

My husband, Sanford, son, Eli and cat, Abbey live in Champaign.
