Provena Hospice- Volunteer Training

Provena Hospice is recuiting compassionate and caring volunteers to provide comfort and support to terminally ill patients and their families.

Our volunteers will go through a comprehensive 16-hour training program.

The training will be held at Provena Hospice 1501 Interste Drive, Champaign.

Cancer Benefit for Jeff Messmore

There will be a cancer benefit for Jeff Messmore, who has Hodgkins Lymphoma, at the Moose Ldge, 1001 Rt. 150 Danville on March 21st.

There will be a $2 donation at the door for adults with kids ten and under free. A $5 donation for food, with kids ten and under free.

There will also be a Cake Walk, 50/50, and a Auction.


Illinois American Water Now Accepting Applications for Environmental Grant Program

The Illinois American Water application for the 2010 Environment Grant Program to support community based enviroment projects that improve, restore or protect watersheds and community drinking water supplies is now open.

The company grants up to $10,000.

National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the perfect
opportunity to remind men and women aged 50 years and older (those at
greatest risk) of the benefits of screening for this disease. Of
cancers affecting both men and women, colorectal cancer is the nation's
second leading cancer killer. Yet it is highly preventable, through
screening.

Champaign Fire Explorer Scholarship

The City of Champaign announced the creation of an annual educational scholarship program designed to assist local youth participating in the Champaign Fire Explorer program, a division of Boy Scouts America.

The scholarship is intended to assist with a City Council goal to introduce additional diversity inot the Fire Service.

The Scholarship will be awarded to one current Fire Explorer student to be enrolled in Parkland Community College's Fire Service Technology Program.

Community Education Classes

Make new friends and expand your horizons by taking a class in something fun and interesting at Urbana Adult Education. Registration is underway for adults within driving distance. Classes start throughout the semester. Tuition fees are kept at a minimum.

Whether you want to learn computer skills, crochet, how to pick and train a puppy, a variety of classes are available in the areas of arts and crafts, bridge, business, and cooking.

Cross Country Skiing

If you love to be outdoors, burn calories and have fun, consider cross-country skiing at the Rock Springs Conservation Area.

We have sizes to fit ages 3 thru adult. Snow shoes are also available for older youth and adults. Fees are reasonable and Rock Springs is located just SW of Decatur, IL off of Rock Springs Road.

Sangamon River Bridge) Call for

This family is in desparate need of financial contributions to allow them to stay focus on the battle of their daughter and not worry about how the bills are going to be paid.

The American Diabetes Association "Kiss A Pig" Gala will be held at the Refinery on April 9th 6PM .

Washington School seeking prizes for their Carnival Fundraising Event

The Washington School Early Childhood Program Parents Advisory Committee is in the process of seeking raffle prizes for their Annual Spring Carnival Fundraising Event. The purpose of this event is to raise funds for new technology and student learning centers.

We are seeking community support in the form of donated items such as merchandise, gift certificates, or money (checks can be made out to Washington School). A classroom also may be sponsor for $25 each.

Washington School Early Childhood Program serves 3 to 5 year old children within the Urbana School District.

The children, parents, and staff of Washington School appreciate any support you are willing to give and thank you in advance.

The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship

The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announces that it will be awarding over $53,000 in college scholarships throughout the State of Illinois to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2010-2011 academic year. The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the State of Illinois.

Champaign County Sheriff Dan Walsh will be awarding one scholarship in the amount of $500.00.


There will be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin. The only limitations are as follows:

? Applicants must be a permanent Illinois resident

? Scholarships must be utilized at institutes of higher learning within the State of Illinois

? Students must be enrolled as a full time student during the 2010-2011 school year (excluding summer session)

Applications are now available at the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, 204 E. Main Street, Urbana, IL

Students must complete the application; answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office by April 12, 2010 (must be postmarked by this date).

"To Health and Beyond”

McKinley Health Center will host their 17th annual Health Fair under the theme “To Health and Beyond” on April 23rd at the Illini Union, ball rooms A, B, and C, from 10am-3pm.

Over 60 vendors will be in attendance including the Champaign Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD), Provena Covenant Medical Center, and Christie Clinic just to name a few. Come get a variety of screenings including a blood pressure check, cholesterol, spinal checks, massages, and manicures. See many demonstrations, and exhibitions. This is FREE to all in attendance. There will be exciting prizes and surprises. Come out and be entertained by Dance 2xs, Caliente, Floor Lovers, Chandani, and Thunder Medicine.

Be hypnotized, get lost in space for a day! Bring friends and family and enjoy the excitement!

American Legion Riders Bike Xtravaganza And Family Fun Day

American Legion Riders Bike Xtravaganza And Family Fun Day The American Legion Riders Post 429, Lovington, Illinois will be hosting a bike show, rodeo and family fun day Saturday, April 24th, starting at 9am, sign up at 108 E. State Street, Lovington, Illinois. Bike show judging to begin at 1pm with Bike Rodeo to follow. The event will be
will include a large variety of food and goods vendors.

We will begin with the American Legion Color Guard, and will be offering a Blessing of the Bikes. There will be youth activities such as air bouncies, and pony rides, an adult obstacle course, bike show, bike rodeo, kids and
adult pedal tractor pull. Prizes from 1st to 3rd will be awarded to
participants in rodeo and bike show will have 9 seperate classes to be
awarded by a panel of judges. We will have a DJ and live music with a
variety of music through out the day.
Free admission to public, Bike show fee $10.00, Rodeo fee $10.00, both

FREE Self Defense classes

Classes will be 1-2pm on the following Saturdays: March 13, April 10, May 15, June 12, July 10, August 21, September 11, October 16, Nov. 6 & Dec. 4, 2010.

Who can attend?
This class is FREE to ANYONE who wants to come: we welcome Adult and Teen Men and Women of all abilities. Children 8 and over are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult! Previous martial art experience is not needed.

Why is this class free?
In light of the recent economic crisis, the World Hwa Rang Do® Association and the Hwa Rang Do Champaign Academy is now offering free and open self-defense classes to the public, to empower our communities regardless of financial situation. We believe that everyone
should have basic and effective knowledge on how to defend themselves against an attacker, bully or any other act of physical aggression. We welcome people from all walks of life, genders, and martial arts skill levels to come participate, make new friends and help us build community.

What do we do?
Learn and more importantly “practice” the essentials of awareness and useful self-defense techniques in a friendly, safe environment.

Where is the class held?
The Hwa Rang Do Martial Art Academy is conveniently located 2 blocks south of I-74 in the Northgate Plaza - 1508 N. Cunningham in Urbana. RSVPs are not required but are helpful: call 344-6272. Walk-ins are welcome.

No uniforms required. Wear comfortable clothes that allow freedom of movement.

What is Hwa Rang Do?
The martial and healing art of Hwa Rang Do was founded as a belt-by-belt system in 1960 by Dr. Joo Bang Lee and is one of the most comprehensive martial art systems in the World. This art has been developed in accordance to the ancient Korean principles of Um-Yang, which emphasizes balance in life and harmony with others and nature. The Hwa Rang Do Champaign Academy is a member of the World Hwa Rang Do Association the one and only governing organization for the martial and healing art of Hwa Rang Do.
